A major pipeline burst at the Bendwada Bridge on Wednesday led to the wastage of thousands of litres of water, flooding the entire stretch and causing severe inconvenience to commuters.
According to locals, a Ductile Iron (DI) pipeline of the Department of Drinking Water Supply burst earlier in the day, sending water gushing across the bridge. The incident also caused damage to the old bridge road, while the new bridge — still incomplete after years of delay remains closed, forcing traffic through the waterlogged stretch.

This is not the first such mishap in the area. Residents pointed out that the same main pipeline had burst just two days after previous repair work, exposing what they called gross negligence by the department.
Locals have demanded that the aging pipelines be replaced immediately to prevent further wastage of water and disruption to traffic. They have also urged authorities to expedite completion of the new bridge, which has been pending for several years.
Officials from the Water Supply Department were seen inspecting the site, though restoration work was still underway at the time of reporting.
