PORVORIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday laid on the table of the House a letter written by Director General of Police (DGP) Jaspal Singh to Hyderabad City PoliceCommissioner C V Anand, who had said that the Goa DGP had ‘totally stopped taking his calls’.
In the letter, the DGP has stated that Goa police and the government are equally committed to eradication of narcotic substances like any other police force. Every year, substantial action is taken against peddlers and suppliers. He claimed that Anand’s allegations that Goa Police has not provided assistance to Hyderabad Police is not supported by facts.

“Whenever Hyderabad Police visit Goa legally, all assistance has been rendered to the teams within the legal bonds,” he said. The DGP has also mentioned the High Court of Bombay at Goa taking strong exception of police forces from other States coming to Goa without following the due legal procedure and picking up suspects. He cited the incident reported at Margao wherein police personnel from Andhra Pradesh came and picked up an accused under Excise Act in the wee hours at 3 am. The High Court directed the Goa Police to issue a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) in the light of observations.
On July 26, the Chief Minister had informed the Legislative assembly that Goa DGP wrote to Hyderabad DGP but there was no reply from Hyderabad DGP for the last three months.
