South Goa MP Captain Viriato Fernandes has tabled a Private Member’s Bill in Parliament calling for Special Status for Goa. The proposal aims to protect the state’s unique land resources, environment, culture and heritage while ensuring that development does not erode Goa’s distinct identity.
Fernandes has argued that Special Status would help address growing concerns over uncontrolled development, migration pressures and environmental degradation, while preserving Goa’s heritage for future generations.
The move has sparked fresh debate on the longstanding demand for greater constitutional protection for the coastal state.
