Talented Goan songstress Akshada Bandekar has released a song on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Goa. A Christmas song titled Merry Christmas 2020 written, composed, and sung by her was released by Govind Gaude, Minister of Art and Culture.
Speaking on the occasion she said “This is my gift to Goa, we know Goa has come a long way since 1961 we know people from all walks of life and all religions live in harmony. That explains why we are known all around the country and the world as a place of peace and harmony. Anyone who comes here can’t help but fall in love with the beauty of our land. Christmas is a major festival in Goa. It is celebrated with much pomp and fervor and people get into the mood from Dec 1st itself. I have tried to capture the essence of Christmas in this song. I have so many exciting childhood memories growing up and looking forward to Christmas day. A favourite poet once said Be never too grown up to search the skies on Christmas day. That’s what I have tried to put in this song. I have also tried to incorporate the fact that this song is my present. Christmas is not about materialistic presents you buy from the store, it can be as simple as lending a hand to someone who needs help. What is more important is the love you can put into it. Especially this year when the whole world requires a lot more love and I hope this song brings more colour and happiness to the world”. That she said was the intention behind the song.

Speaking later to the Café she said “The general sentiment this year was that everyone was looking forward to Christmas and get over with this year and have hopes for the next year. So that was what got me to write this song. The song starts off with It’s been so scary since January so then the song picks up and this time to rejuvenate ourselves and be ready for the next coming year and hopes for things to get better”.
It took her a day to write and sing and record it at home where she has her setup. She then sent it to Daulat who arranged the music composed by Akshada. This whole year she said had to be done online and this project was no different.
When asked what she intended to do next she said she wanted to study for her masters but due to Covid she had this break and she intended to spend more time on her music. She can play the guitar, drums, and keyboards and is self-taught. One can safely predict more hit compositions from her in the future.
Also, present on the occasion of the launch was Father Albano Fernandes parish priest, St Inez Church.
