South Goa Member of Parliament Captain Viriato Fernandes has written to the Union Defence Minister seeking a clear assurance on the continued operation of civil aviation services at Dabolim Airport, amid recurring concerns over attempts to shut down civilian flights.
In his letter dated February 12, 2026, Fernandes expressed strong concern over what he described as repeated moves to discontinue civil operations at the airport, which serves as a vital aviation hub for South Goa.

The MP stated that he has raised the issue several times in Parliament and has earlier received assurances from the Union Minister of Civil Aviation that Dabolim Airport would remain open for civilian aircraft operations.
Captain Fernandes emphasised that any move to curtail or close civil operations at Dabolim would adversely affect tourism, connectivity, and the livelihoods of thousands of people dependent on the aviation and allied sectors in South Goa.
He urged the Defence Ministry to intervene and ensure continuity of civil aviation services at Dabolim, calling for a firm and unequivocal stand to put an end to the uncertainty surrounding the airport’s future.
The letter comes amid renewed political debate and public concern over Goa’s aviation policy and the future role of Dabolim Airport alongside the Mopa International Airport.
