Upset over the alleged failure of the Margao Municipal Coun cil (MMC) to regularise their services, 12 workers staged a protest outside the civic body building on Thursday, demanding im mediate implementation of a court order passed in their favour. The agitating workers warned that they would resort to self-immolation in front of the municipal building if their jobs are not regularised within the next two days. The strong warning came amid mounting frustration, with the workers claim ing that despite securing a favourable court verdict nearly four weeks ago, the council has yet to act on the directive. Speaking to reporters, Domnic Furtado, one of the protesting workers, said the delay has caused severe hardship to those affected. “Nearly four weeks have passed since the court or der, but the civic body has done nothing to regular ise our jobs,” Furtado al leged. He further claimed that salaries are not being disbursed properly, plac ing financial strain on the workers and their fami lies. “We have won the court battle, but still the civic body is doing injustice to us. We have crossed the level of patience and hence decided to burn ourselves if our demands are not fulfilled. We don’t understand why they are not following the court or ders,” he stated. The workers said they have been serving the council for several years and are only seeking en forcement of what they described as their rightful entitlement in accordance with the judicial ruling. They accused the munici pal authorities of unneces sarily delaying the process without offering any clear explanation or timeline for compliance. The protest drew atten tion from passersby and created tension in the vi cinity of the municipal building, though no unto ward incident was report ed during the demonstra tion. The workers have urged higher authorities to in tervene immediately to ensure compliance with the court’s directions and prevent escalation of the agitation. Officials from the Margao Municipal Council were not imme diately available for com ment on the allegations.
