Veteran diplomat Vipul has been appointed as India’s next Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, a strategically important posting at a time when the Gulf nation is playing an increasingly influential role in regional affairs and amid ongoing geopolitical tensions across West Asia.
A 1998-batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer, Vipul is currently serving as India’s Ambassador to Qatar. His extensive experience in the Gulf region is expected to strengthen India’s diplomatic engagement with Saudi Arabia, a key partner in trade, energy, and regional security.

Announcing the appointment, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said, “He is expected to take up the assignment shortly.”
The appointment comes as India seeks to further deepen its ties with Saudi Arabia against the backdrop of shifting geopolitical developments in West Asia and growing strategic cooperation between the two countries.
During his distinguished diplomatic career, Vipul has held several important overseas assignments, serving in Indian missions in Cairo, Colombo, Geneva, and Dubai. His wide-ranging international experience and understanding of regional dynamics are expected to aid India’s diplomatic outreach in the Gulf region.
Saudi Arabia remains one of India’s most significant partners in West Asia, with cooperation spanning energy security, investment, trade, counterterrorism, and the welfare of the large Indian diaspora residing in the Kingdom.
