With paddy fields drying up due to an extended dry spell, over 40 traditional farmers from Quitla in Aldona held a prayer procession on Thursday, seeking timely rainfall and divine blessings for a successful farming season.
The procession commenced at the Dauza Vaddo Chapel and made its way to the Holy Cross at Postaar, where the farmers gathered to pray for adequate rainfall and the protection of their crops. The participants offered special prayers, sang hymns, and recited the Novena to St. Anthony, asking for favourable weather conditions and a bountiful harvest.

The prolonged absence of consistent rainfall has left many paddy fields parched, raising concerns among farmers about the fate of this year’s crop. During the prayers, the farming community appealed for abundant rain to sustain their fields and protect their livelihoods from further losses.
Farmers said they remain hopeful that their prayers will bring much-needed relief, as erratic weather patterns in recent years have repeatedly affected agricultural production and caused significant crop damage.
After the prayers and novena at the Holy Cross in Postaar, the faithful carried the statue of St. Anthony in a procession back to the Dauza Vaddo Chapel, where the event concluded with a final prayer service.
The prayer procession underscored the enduring faith of Goa’s farming community, which continues to rely on both tradition and perseverance while facing the growing challenges posed by unpredictable weather and changing climatic conditions.
