Air India is set to launch a new three-times-a-week service between Mumbai and Toronto from October 25, adding another direct connection between India and Canada as the airline expands its long-haul network.
The new flights will operate from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM) to Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ). According to the schedule, services are planned for Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays, with the return flight operating from Toronto to Mumbai.

Air India plans to deploy its 328-seat Boeing 777-300ER on the route. The aircraft features eight first-class suites, 40 business-class seats with lie-flat beds and 280 economy seats. The airline has also highlighted improvements including Wi-Fi, upgraded in-flight entertainment and enhanced food options.
The service is currently scheduled to operate only during the winter timetable, with the final Mumbai-Toronto departure planned for March 26, 2027. However, flight schedules could change.
Air India has described the new service as nonstop, although questions remain over how consistently the flights will be operated without an intermediate stop. The airline’s schedule submission reportedly lists the flights as nonstop.
The launch comes as Air India continues to navigate complicated airspace restrictions affecting its North American operations. The airline has been avoiding Pakistani and Iranian airspace and also routing around Russian airspace on flights to the US and Canada. These restrictions have resulted in significant detours, increasing flight times, fuel consumption and operating costs.
The Mumbai-Toronto market is sizeable. Data cited from OAG Traffic Analyzer showed that around 128,000 round-trip passengers travelled between Mumbai and Toronto between June 2025 and May 2026. That translates to an average of roughly 351 passengers per day, excluding seasonal variations.
Air India will also be looking beyond Mumbai for passengers. Major connecting markets include Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai, which recorded substantial round-trip traffic to Toronto during the period.
The airline already operates flights between Delhi and Toronto, giving it an existing presence in the Canadian market. The Delhi-Toronto route returned to nonstop operations on August 1, using the Boeing 787-9. Its schedule is expected to include both nonstop and one-stop services depending on the aircraft and departure.
With the Mumbai route, Air India will seek to capture more of the India-Canada market while using Mumbai as an additional hub for connecting passengers from across the country.
