Sriharikota: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully launched its advanced Earth observation satellite EOS-05 aboard the GSLV-F17 rocket in a pre-dawn mission from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh, on Friday.
The rocket lifted off at 2:55 am IST, carrying the Geo-Imaging Satellite on its latest mission. Shortly after liftoff, EOS-05 was successfully deployed into its designated sub-geosynchronous transfer orbit, marking another successful milestone for ISRO.
Expressing satisfaction over the mission, ISRO Chairman Dr V Narayanan said the GSLV-F17 had successfully and accurately placed the satellite into its intended orbit.
Thomas Kurian, Mission Director of the GSLV-F17 mission, said EOS-05 was the heaviest satellite ever launched by a GSLV into a geosynchronous transfer orbit (GTO) or sub-GTO orbit.
The successful mission further demonstrates ISRO’s growing capabilities in launching heavier and increasingly advanced Earth observation satellites into higher orbits.
