Passengers planning to travel by train through the National Capital Region (NCR) over the coming days should prepare for potential disruptions. Northern Railway has released a comprehensive handling plan affecting roughly 120 train services operating within the Delhi Division from Friday, September 11, through Sunday, September 13, 2026.
The operational changes encompass cancellations, route diversions, short-terminations, late starts, and rescheduled departures. The impacted list features several flagship and long-distance passenger services, alongside multiple daily local commuter trains (EMUs and MEMUs).

Premium Trains Affected
Among the premium services seeing temporary path diversions or modified departure times are key routes connecting New Delhi to major cities across the country:
- Rajdhani Express Services: Key services including the New Delhi–Ranchi, New Delhi–Dibrugarh, New Delhi–Sealdah, New Delhi–Howrah, and New Delhi–Bhubaneswar Rajdhanis will operate via diverted routes, typically bypassing standard stretches between New Delhi, Delhi Junction, and Sahibabad.
- Tejas Rajdhani & Vande Bharat: Premium routes such as the Mumbai Tejas Rajdhani and the New Delhi–Rajendra Nagar Terminal Tejas Rajdhani are scheduled for delayed departures (late starts) ranging from 35 to 50 minutes. Select Vande Bharat Express services navigating the region will also experience route adjustments or revised schedules.
- Superfast & Express Trains: Popular express lines—such as the Grand Trunk Express (New Delhi to Chennai), Paschim Express (Amritsar to Bandra Terminus), Sampoorna Kranti Express, and the Howrah-bound Poorva Express—face departure delays ranging from 20 minutes to over two hours.
Commuter Services and Local Disruptions
Daily passengers using local suburban lines are likely to see the most direct cancellations and short-terminations. Multiple EMU and MEMU runs connecting Ghaziabad, Palwal, Shakurbasti, New Delhi, Hazrat Nizamuddin, and Delhi Shahdara have been fully or partially cancelled during this three-day period to accommodate the necessary operational work.

Addressing the updates, Himanshu Shekhar Upadhyay, Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) for Northern Railway, confirmed that these modifications are strictly necessary due to pressingly essential operational reasons. He emphasized that Northern Railway is taking steps to manage traffic efficiently while minimizing long-term inconvenience to passengers.
Travelers intending to board trains from or passing through New Delhi, Old Delhi (Delhi Jn), Hazrat Nizamuddin, and Ghaziabad between September 11 and September 13 are strongly advised to check the live running status of their trains via official railway helpline channels, the NTES app, or IRCTC portals before arriving at the station.
