ECI Rejects Rahul Gandhi’s Allegations on Form 6 Changes During SIR, Calls Claims ‘Misleading’

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has rejected allegations by Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar unilaterally and illegally altered the declaration attached to Form 6 during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.

In a post on X on Monday, the poll panel described the allegations as “misleading” and sought to clarify the circumstances surrounding the Form 6 declaration.

The ECI said the order initiating the SIR exercise in Bihar on June 24, 2025, was issued with the unanimous approval of the Election Commission. It further referred to a May 27, 2026, Supreme Court judgment, stating that the court had upheld the order.

The Commission also addressed a statement made in its September 26 press note, specifically Point 1(iii), which stated that the declaration attached to Form 6 for the SIR exercise had been upheld by the Supreme Court.

The exchange comes amid heightened political scrutiny of the electoral roll revision process and the functioning of the poll panel. Rahul Gandhi has raised concerns over the manner in which electoral forms and procedures are being handled, while the ECI has maintained that the SIR process and related decisions were undertaken in accordance with established procedures.

The dispute over Form 6 adds to the broader political debate surrounding the ongoing revision of electoral rolls and the safeguards in place to protect the voting rights of eligible citizens.
