The likely motive: a football match, a Rs 100 bet or just an argument

PANJIM: Is it murder or culpable homicide? Was there a football match involved, a Rs 100 bet and a foul or was it just an argument outside a bar and a fist thrown in anger?
According to police, some days back, 30-year-old Somnath Kankonkar had an altercation outside a bar that led to his death. The police have booked one person under section 304 of IPC — culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
The accused Mithun Gawde was arrested on June 18, two 2 days after the incident, which apparently took place outside a bar at Gaunsawaddo, Karmali.
Gawde is in police custody serving a seven-day remand. PI Krishna Sinari says that motive and the full details will only be available after the investigation is complete.
Police also say that after the fist-fight, the deceased was taken to a private hospital, and then to Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim where he succumbed to his injuries.
Locals say that the incident occurred inside the bar regarding some gambling with people in power alluding that this goes on everywhere. Others say there were arguments on some bets over a football game, possibly the World Cup.
Locals, however allege that the amount was just Rs 100 and the fight started in the bar itself, alluding to some foul committed in a football match. However, none of the details are clear except that a person is dead over what could probably be an argument over a football game.
There has been a lot of talk, but nobody has been forthcoming with details and the question is still open if it is indeed an open and shut case or whether he was deliberately targeted or whether it was the result or some football match, a foul or a bet.
