VALPOI: The roof of the Government primary school at Brahmakarmali, Valpoi is on the verge of collapse. The school building is almost 50 years old and since then no repair work has been carried out.
Almost 15 days ago, a student escaped unhurt when a portion of the roof collapsed. At present, Government primary school comprises of 19 students and all come from Brahmakarmali. The school lacks a play ground and as such students risk their lives by playing on the road. The school too lacks basic facilities.
“During monsoon, due to the roof leakage rain water enters the classroom. A helper is forced to keep a bucket in the classroom. We have written a letter addressed to the Director of Education, regarding the leaking roof and to repair the same, but we didn’t receive any reply, says Deepali Naik, PTA chairman.
Former sarpanch Ramrao N Desai said, “The school building is 50 years old. And its roof may collapse any moment. Fifteen days ago, a student escaped unhurt when a portion of the roof came crashing down. Five days ago, the parents have used bamboo sticks as temporary support. As a parent, I demand that the Government repair the roof urgently. The PTA chairman has sent a letter to concerned authority long back but didn’t get any reply.”
Kishor Kelkar, a teacher said, “At present we have to carry out the school roof repair work. During the monsoon it’s not possible. Since the last 50 years, the repair work has not been done. As a teacher, I have informed my head.”
