PANJIM: A 21-year-old habitual bike lifter has been arrested for allegedly stealing several two-wheelers from various parts of Goa.
The South Goa Police recovered eight bikes from his possession, a total value of which is estimated to be over Rs 7 lakh.
The police zeroed in on Shahabuddin Shaikh while investigating the theft of a Bajaj Pulsar bike from Fatorda.
“During the course of investigation, we received reliable and specific information that the said theft was committed by the accused Shahabuddin Shaikh. As the said accused is a habitual bike lifter and has been involved in various crimes in Goa, a trap was laid under the directions of Police Inspector Maina Curtorim Police Station Shivram Vaingankar, and a search was conducted by the police team. Accordingly the accused was caught red-handed along with the stolen vehicle — Bajaj Pulsar 200 GA-08-AN-9271 and placed under arrest,” read a press release issued by the Superintendent of Police Shobhit Saxena.
During the course of investigation seven more two-wheeler vehicles worth Rs 6.50 lakh approximately were recovered from the accused.
