VALPOI: For the past ten years, Nanoda villagers have been demanding an Anganwadi building in their village, but no one seems to be listening to their demands.
The director of women and child development, Panjim, had ceremoniously laid the foundation stone for an Anganwadi centre at Nanoda village, under integrated child development services project Sattari taluka in 2013,.
But even after four years, there is no sign of starting the construction work for the Anganwadi centre. Right now the Anganwadi is running in a rented room which is far away from the village.
The Nanoda village Anganwadi is the 20th such centre, which caters to the needs of 15 children.
In our village there are 40 houses and 250 villagers reside here. For past ten years we have been demanding a new Anganwadi building in our village. At present there is no Anganwadi building in our village and it is running in rented room that is far away from our village. Our children have to walk an hour daily to reach at rented Anganwadi centre, says Sada Gawalkar, a villager.
Few years ago, the then government had laid the foundation stone for the Anganwadi centre in our village. But the construction work is yet to take off. We are now demanding the present government to take initiate the process, another villager added.
Moreover, the place where the foundation stone is laid for Anganwadi building is very small, as construction of Anganwadi with a basic kitchen, toilet and compound would be near impossible.
We have another piece of land and we want the Anganwadi to be built on this place. We have already sent the proposal to the government and hopefully in the next six months the government will construct the Anganwadi building in Nanoda village, panch Prashant Marathe points out.
