POINGUINIM, DEC 27
While one authority repaired the structure that was damaged along the highway at Canacona two months ago, another authority floated a tender to repair the duly completed work.
A parapet was damaged along the highway at Canacona about two months ago after a truck rammed into it and the PWD (national highway division) had immediately repaired it.
Now, the same repaired work that was duly completed has been tendered by the PWD for repairs amounting to nearly Rs 2 lakh.
The call for tender was published on December 8 and as per the Government notification eligible contractors are invited to bid for the work that has already been completed.
Three PWD contractors dismayed by the commission allegedly demanded by the PWD approached Herald and divulged that many works of the PWD of the highway division were of cosmetic nature and lots of bugling was going on for monetary gains.
The Executive Engineer of the PWD (Highway Division) was out of reach while Canacona Assistant Engineer Diogo has stated that the work at that time was taken as a precautionary measure and to avoid mishaps.
But when asked as to who had undertaken the work and footed the bill, he was wayward in his reply.
This scribe after doubting of illegalities conducted by PWD had asked information under Right to Information Act 2005 but despite a lapse of one month only one division of the PWD responded in writing to visit Margao for taking the notings of the files as desired. The other departments are staying silent.
