Cry India Cry!

A week before India’s 78th Independence Day, as nation was preparing for the celebration, another crime of brutal rape and murder of a female doctor in Kolkata shook the nation. Imagine even female doctors who serve to save lives are not safe in our country. What a shame to our nation when we take pride of being an independent country. We have a right to fly our flag high at homes only when we are sure that our mothers, sisters and daughters are safe in our country.

Today protests are taking place all over the country. However after sometime, people will go back to their usual work and the protests will be forgotten. The doctor who was brutally raped and killed will be forgotten.

It appears that women are very unsafe in our so called new Bharat. Crimes are increasing rapidly against women because our laws have loopholes. Nowadays laws are more favourable and helpful to the accused. Judiciary is weak too. Dead victims will never get justice in this country. ‘Tareek  pe Tareek’  has become part of the court’s system. Some judges interpret the rule of law differently as per their whims and fancies or due to influence or political pressure. How can interpretation of the law be different in similar crimes? Law should be law and courts should uphold the rule of law and Judges should not think that they are above the rule of law.

‘Beti Padaao, Beti Bachaao’ slogan of PM Modi has no effect at all. In fact suggestions may be given to him to create a slogan ‘Rapist se Beti Bachaao’. It is important for men to get education on sex, rape and pain of a woman. An Indian comedian and actor, Vir Das had rightly said that we come from an India where women are worshipped in the morning and gangraped at night.

While our country is mourning for the doctor, another incident of a rape convict has come to light, that after coming out from jail apparently on good behaviour, he again raped a 7-year-old girl in the state of Madhya Pradesh.

Rapists will be rapists forever. They will not change and hence it is high time that all rapists should be put in jail till they die there. But in our New Bharat we have witnessed that convicted rapists have been welcomed with garlands. We see rapists getting paroles and bails and are being protected by politicians. Even in the Kolkata rape case, reports are coming out that the culprits are being protected by the politicians. This is ‘the shamelessness of our New Bharat.’

Politicians should avoid making insensitive statements like – women are not capable of being left free or independent. Our forefathers who fought for our country to be free must be unhappy somewhere. This is surely not the Independent India that they had wished for.

After India becoming  independent, Independence has thrown on us great responsibilities. May every Indian realise their responsibility and make our nation safe for everyone, irrespective of gender, caste, creed or religion because every life is precious!
