VELIM: In view of the recent accidents in Velim and the Cuncolim police’s jurisdiction, Velim MLA Benjamin Silva urged the government to improve the police station’s infrastructure so that the police could reach accident sites faster.
Silva pointed out that the time taken by police to reach the accident site and conduct the investigation was a major irritant for the victims’ families and friends. He said that the police cited reasons such as lack of a driver for their vehicles.
He also strongly refuted allegations that he was trying to shield the accused and rued how certain people were creating a negative perception by spreading rumours.
Silva further said that more staff had been appointed to the understaffed Cuncolim police station following his intervention. He also urged the government to ensure that the station had adequate facilities. The MLA added that he had raised the issue in the Assembly before and would raise it again at the upcoming Assembly session.
The Assolna police outpost, which is controlled by the Cuncolim police, is also in a bad state. The outpost was set up to help the people of Assolna, Ambelim and Velim.
