PORVORIM: Stating that artificial ripening, sweet marts, injected chemical in vegetables and fruits and also fish will be tested on day to day basis, the Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Friday has assured that Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) raids and checks will continue for the safety of the people.
The Minister also informed the house that 162 samples of fish till date have been taken for testing and that the government has placed order for 200 on-the-spot checking kits.
Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro had moved a private member resolution recommending the government to set up a Judicial Commission to investigate the adulteration of fruits, vegetables, meat and fish to access the impact of nutrition and health of consumers due to surreptitiously poisoning of food by suppliers.
“FDA has been very clear in taking judicious steps and taking stringent measures in carrying out tests on day to day basis. No pressure was ever put on FDA. 162 samples of fish have been taken and tested till date but we have not found that it is not having detectable level,” said Rane.
The Health Minister further said, “We have now additionally placed an order for additional 200 on the pot testing kits wherein each kit can test up to 25 samples. We have to believe in some agency, this is a government of India agency which has brought about these specific guidelines.”
He further urged the members of the house to share any information on any suspicious activity based on which the FDA will conduct surprise tests.
“I assure you that we will conduct raids and checks that will continue for the safety of the people on day to day basis.” he added.
