VASCO: Goa United Workmen Union (GUWU) president Olencio Simoes on Friday demanded a mandatory RT-PCR test for the next six months for those entering in the State on account of third wave of COVID pandemic, which is likely to hit the State, along with strict lockdown.
In a press statement, Simoes stated that lockdown should be extended further until the COVID completely subsides in the State as many employees, workers etc have been losing lives.
He demanded that the Labour Department should direct all the industries/factories to follow strict standard operating procedures (SOPs) as some workers are forced to come to work even if they fall ill.
He also appealed to the High Court of Bombay at Goa to look into the gross mismanagement by the Directorate of Health Services.
Simoes stated that the death rate and positivity rate is still the highest in the State as compared to the rest of India but still the Directorate of Health Services has failed to put the system in place to handle the COVID crisis.
