The Margao-Colva road from Old Market Circle to Colva Beach Circle, now widened to four lanes, still faces significant traffic issues. A major bottleneck has developed at the narrowest point, where the train tracks pass overhead, primarily due to large tourist buses.
The drivers of these buses, often registered outside Goa, seem unaware of the height restrictions at the railway underpass. As they head towards Colva Beach, packed with tourists, they only realize the problem when they approach the overpass and spot the sign, which is often obscured by trees. At this point, they are forced to manage a U-turn on the busy road, causing chaos and disruption.

The situation worsens as vehicles pile up behind the buses, extending up to a kilometre or more. Drivers become impatient, honking and attempting to overtake on the wrong side of the road, only to encounter the turning bus blocking their path. This creates a mess of vehicles on both sides of the underpass and delays those commuting to work or running errands.
This happens multiple times a day, contributing to traffic jams and frustration for local commuters. It is high time the authorities took action. Shouldn’t there be a prominent sign at the beginning of the road warning drivers of the height restriction? And more importantly, shouldn’t buses that are too tall be stopped before entering this route? These issues not only cause daily inconvenience but also impact the smooth flow of traffic.
