MARGAO: RCC Fatorda and Kings Valley Chubby Cheeks, Porvorim emerged champions in the boys and girls categories respectively, at the third State sub-junior handball championship, organized by Goa Handball Association, at the SAG sports complex, Fatorda, here, recently.
In all, 18 teams participated in the one day event.
In the boy’s final, RCC Fatorda overcame SFX Siolim by a narrow 12-11 margin.
Jez Fernandes, goalkeeper of RCC Fatorda excelled in the final match along with Jaden Fernandes, Simran and Sahil Raikar.
The third place was bagged by Holy Rosary Convent School, Nuvem defeating Benaulim Handballers 17-15.
In the girl’s final, Kings Valley Chubby Cheeks outplayed Holy Rosary Convent School 4-0 to emerge champs.
Sharadhi Shetty and Rituja Shinde played well for the winners. Daniela Sports Club of Navelim defeated Benaulim Handballers 7-4 for the third place.
The tournament was inaugurated by Rupesh Mahatme, president of Goa Handball Association in the presence of Selvino D’Costa and Sriram Naik.
Arun Bhat, treasurer of Sports Authority of Goa was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of Mandar Parodkar, ex-State handball goalkeeper and Rupesh Mahatme. Earlier, Conciecao Fernandes welcomed and Vinay Sambari proposed the vote of thanks.
