PANJIM: Celebrated long distance runner Raj Vadgama took off from Vasco, Goa on Wednesday at dawn, flagged of by MLA Jose Luis Carlos Almeida and President of Vasco Sports Club Nitin Bandekar, for the Bharathon which is a cross country 10,000 km run spanning 120 days through various cities in India.
On November 13 he ran in Panjim, Mapusa and then head towards Belgaum.
While in Goa, he is being hosted by the Goan running group Susegado runners, also a part of Vasco Sports Club. “Since Goa River Marathon is around the corner on December 14, this is a good opportunity for Goa based runners to join Raj Vadgama” said President of Vasco SC, Nitin Bandekar.
A number of long distance runners from Vasco ran with him, on Wednesday for many kilo meters to show their support to Vadgama’s efforts. Bharathon 10,000 is a cross country 10,000 km epic run spanning 120 days or four months.
This is also a Guinness Book of World Record attempt by Raj, who started from Gateway of India in Mumbai on August 15 Till now he has run 5000 km running across many states – starting from Mumbai to Gujarat, Rajasthan, Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal, Ladakh, Uttaranchal, UP, Bihar, West Bengal, Orissa, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, TamilNadu, Kanyakumari, Kerala, Karnataka. This run is expected to be completed by December 31.
