Ganesh Chaturthi starts with bringing of the elephant-headed idols of Lord Ganesh and installing them in Hindu households and public pandals across the State. Both welcoming Lord Ganesh and immersion of the idols hold equal importance. The immersions symbolise the return of Lord Ganesh to the divine parents Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.
Devotees will immerse the idols on the fifth day, seventh day or ninth day during the Ganesh Chaturthi.
