Delay in printing is the cause, says Education Department

PORVORIM: The academic year has already completed a month and yet, many schools in Mapusa and Porvorim are yet to receive some textbooks of Stds V, VI, VII and VIII, creating all sorts of problems for the students and the teachers alike.
Speaking to Herald, a schoolteacher informed that the education department has not yet supplied many textbooks and this has put them in an awkward situation.
“The parents of students are annoyed and confront us by asking us how their children would answer the exams without the textbooks,” the teacher said.
Some officials of schools in Porvorim stated that though there is an office of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan in Porvorim, they are required to get the books from the Guirim office of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.
“Each time, we have to spend money on vehicles to bring these books. This is sheer waste of time and money. We had requested the Education Department to make arrangement at the Porvorim office of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan to supply the books to schools located in Porvorim and surrounding areas, but nothing has been done in this regard,” one school official said.
When contacted, Director of Education Anil Powar stated that there had been a delay in printing of the books and hence, they could not reach the State on time.
“All books have been received on Thursday and they have been dispatched to respective taluka offices. The schools can collect these books from the offices of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan,” said Powar.
