PANJIM: In a major relief to the students who could not clear Class IX and XI during the academic year 2021-22, they will now be able to appear as private candidates for the Class X and XII 2022 Board examination, as the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) has decided to extend the facility even for the current academic year.
The relief, which was introduced last year, was supposed to be a one-time concession for the students during the pandemic year.

“The Board has decided to continue the scheme for the academic year 2022-23. Students who appeared for Class IX and XI for the academic year 2021-22 and with the remark on the result as ‘Needs Improvement’ will now be able to appear as private candidates for the academic year 2022-23,” Board Secretary Geraldina Mendes stated in a circular issued.
The GBSHSE has invited applications from students of Class IX and XI who desire to enroll for ‘Needs Improvement’, as private candidate, to appear for Class X and XII Board examination to be held in March-April, next year.
To appear as private candidates, the students will also be allowed to either choose their present school or any other school, which will act as their centre and carry out their year-round evaluation.
The Board had last year revised the scheme for private candidates to appear for the Class X and XII Board examination, as per which the private candidates too will get the benefit of year-round and internal assessment.
