MARGAO: Ambelim Veterans beat Panjim Veterans 4-3 in a thrilling penalty shoot to march into the finals of All-Goa Navelim Veterans football tournament organized by Navelim Veterans at Rosary ground, Navelim, Monday. The teams were locked goalless at full time.
The teams were well served by former national players and the contest turned out to be an even affair.
Man-of-the-match Mario Soares played a stellar role for Ambelim Veterans as he was instrumental in spraying flawless passes to keep his forwards busy.
Panjim Veterans did create some decent opportunities and nearly scored in the 10th minute when striker Agnelo’s power-packed shot kissed the crossbar.
Crossing over, Ambelim Veterans nearly broke the deadlocked but Mario Soares failed to get past stubborn central defender Stanley Colaco. In the tie-breaker, Ambelim Veterans emerged victors scoring through Marcelino Pinot, John Leitao, Benjamin Silva and Mario Soares while Digamber Gomes, Claude Pacecho, Paulo converted for Panjim Veterans.
