VASCO: Indian Navy has responded to the accusations made against it for the ongoing demolitions in the funnel zone of Dabolim international airport.
In a press statement, Navy said that the current demolition is the result of some locals approaching the High Court of Bombay at Goa against the mushrooming constructions in the vicinity of airport. The violations were identified in a joint survey in 2022 and the owners were directed to demolish the illegal portions for the safety of the aircrafts and residents.

Since there was no action from the owners as well as from Mormugao Planning and Development Authority (MPDA), the High Court initiated contempt of court proceedings forcing the Town and Country Planning (TCP) department to direct MPDA to undertake demolitions, Navy clarified.
The MPDA has acted upon the directives of the Court and demolished the structures to bring them within the height limitations so as to ensure safety of the aircraft, and in turn the safety of the residents residing in the vicinity of the Dabolim airport.
The MPDA has so far partially demolished as many as 22 structures falling within the funnel zone at Dabolim.
