AGENCIES, CUTTACK: Goa will play their final group game against Punjab on Tuesday and will require a win to progress into the semi-finals of the Junior National Football Championship for the BC Roy Trophy, held at Cuttack.
Both Goa and Punjab are tied with four points while Jammu and Kashmir are on two points and SAI Hostels are yet to open their account.
After playing a 1-1 draw against J&K, Goa came back strongly in the next game against SAI Hostel on Sunday defeating them 2-1.
After a barren first half, despite starting positively, Goa conceded an early second half goal. But Goa put up a strong second half performance which saw them net two goals through Chadel Fernandes and Stewart D’Mello to secure a 2-1 win.
“The boys gave their best and played their heart out against SAI. I’m sure they will get the maximum points against Punjab,” expressed manager Rajesh Salgaoacar.
