MARGAO/PONDA: Villagers of Raia and adjoining areas bid a tearful adieu to the Nagarmadi drowning victims on Monday.
The daughters of Raia village Francila Pires and Fiona Pacheco were laid to rest on Monday evening.
There was a sea of people, who had come to bid farewell to the duo. after the Eucharistic Celebration. The two young women were laid to rest at the Raia cemetery.
Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, former Minister Avertano Furtado and others were also present at the funeral.
Meanwhile, the whole of Priol and Ponda talukas were in grief over the death of six Goans, among whom one was from Ponda.
The body of thirty-two-year-old Sameer Chandrakant Gaude from Karmale Kerim, who had gone for picnic with his college friends, was cremated on Monday.
He worked as an Account Manager at a company at Marcaim and was also the student of GVM`s Raiturkar College.
Funeral rites were performed at local crematorium at Karmale Kerim.
Local MLA and Minister Govind Gawde, Dainik Herald Editor Rajendra Desai, teachers, and several citizens, friends and relatives of Sameer paid final tributes.
Sameer, who had married one and half year ago, is survived by his wife Teja, mother, his journalist brother Nirgosh Gavde and sister and sister-in-law Madhu Godkirekar.
