Panjim MLA softens stand on offshore casinos

PANJIM: Panjim MLA Atanasio (Babush) Monserrate has alleged non-cooperation from traffic police to curb the menace caused by vehicles in the capital city while he made a U-turn on his stand against offshore casinos in River Mandovi.

“The main issue with casinos is related to the traffic and parking woes faced by the residents in Panjim. I have understood the issue well now. The casino concern is more because of the traffic problem people are facing,” he said, alleging that the traffic police are not extending necessary co-operation. 

“Small and big businesses are earning their livelihood because of casinos,” he said, in a bid to justify existing and continuing operation of casinos.

The MLA is likely to call for a joint meeting with casino managements to find solution to the congestion problem.
