While the US President Donald Trump will be under the great media euphoria during his India visit this month and will be extolled for his friendship towards our country and lauded for his charisma and status of a world leader, more so, after his acquittal from the impeachment trial, what may go unhighlighted, is his tenacity of purpose in crusading against wanton abortion or killings of millions of unborn children in wombs in his nation, holding a lesson for India.
India’s crisis of declining sex ratio hardly invokes any public debates and any talk against advancement in abortion procedures or further amendments to the Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act, 1971 is considered politically incorrect. A case in point is the recent Union’s endorsement of the same act (amendment Bill) 2020, extending the time limit for pregnant termination from present 20 weeks to 24 weeks.

Visiting World leaders to India ought to bring some awakening among Indian leaders about the greater need for moral reformation. More so, because our morals have hit the lowest depths. Barrack Obama, ex US President, during his India visit at a time of communal frenzy, spoke about the need for promoting peace and during a widely televised tea party with Prime Minister Narendra Modi remarked that all religions are like variety of flowers from the same garden.
Coming back to Trump, recently during the course of his impeachment trial and from which he was acquitted, he took time to address the 16 March for Life, a rally in Washington, joined in by thousands, to declare that every child is sacred and right to be born and that no one has the right to take it away. He expressed his utmost support to the pro-life crusaders, to make abortion unthinkable in the States.
It is regrettable that though there has been more advancement in science and technology in the last 50 years than in the last 20 centuries, the world has virtually turned morally unscrupulous. In most parts, inventions like ultra-sound that are used to detect congenital heart defects and foetal abnormalities lend itself for misuse. In the event of saving the mother’s/woman’s life in an emergency, medical termination of the unborn child’s life is widely considered as legal.
The Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act provides safety for woman/mother, the man/father from being prosecuted for illegal termination of pregnancy or destroying the seed of life. Since India’s population is growing rapidly, who cares how many abortions take place and how many pregnancies are terminated? The Act has become a big tool to commit crimes or murders, giving scope to a new era of medical business, according to critics. In the West organisations like the worldwide Planned Parenthood, have been promoting sexuality in the name of sex education.
Value education and moral science which is almost discarded in the Indian school curriculum should be reintroduced. Nothing will pay great dividends than literature and videos exposing the repercussions of abortions and videos showing the cruel dismembering of the innocent unborn child.
