PANJIM: Crime Branch sleuths arrested two persons, including a motorcycle pilot, for allegedly running a sex racket. Some more motorcycle pilots from Margao have come under the scanner with the investigation team suspecting their role in the illicit trade.
According to information shared by the police, a 28-year-old girl hailing from West Bengal was rescued in a raid near Four Pillars at Neugi Nagar, Panjim, while motorcycle pilot Mustaq Hussain was arrested.
Further investigation led to rescue of another victim of Thane, Maharashtra and arrest of Mangala Kuradkar alias Anita, from Mumbai. “The woman accused had confined the girls in her room,” said an officer, adding that the sex racket was run through mobile phone by two accused Basu and Manoj Kumar Singh who are presently absconding.
“They have also engaged motorcycle pilots from Margao who help them drop girls to customers and collect money for which they (motorcycle pilots) are paid a hefty amount. Police teams have been deployed in search of Basu and Manoj,” the officer further said.
Police also arrested four persons and rescued six women from North East in another raid at Arpora. Shyam Bharati who was on the run surrendered before Crime Branch after the court rejected his anticipatory bail, whereas Johnson Sanju Mascarenhas from Mapusa, Manjunath Ramkrishna Sonar from Karwar and Shashank Chandrashekar Warang from Sawantwadi were arrested soon after the raid at the massage parlour.
