PANJIM: A BJP office-bearer has lodged a police complaint against ‘some people’ for circulating false news about Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar’s health. The party has also taken strong objection to rumours and has asked people not to fall prey to misleading reports.

“…some people are circulating false news about our CM’s health and misguiding the people in my name. The false news was circulated on February 17 and the second was circulated on February 19,” Sunil Desai said in his complaint letter to Ponda police.

His complaint was based on false news circulated on a few WhatsApp media groups about Parrikar’s death. Before lodging a police complaint, Desai posted his reaction on WhatApp groups stating, “This is to inform you that the news being spread with respect to CM Manohar Parrikar in my name is fake news. Neither did I visit him in Mumbai nor is the news  that is being circulated in my name true. There are certain elements of the news media that are trying to misguide the people of Goa.”

Speaker Pramod Sawant addressing the House, asked MLAs and the people not to get carried away by false news about CM’s health.

Health Minister Vishwajit Rane also slammed ‘malacious, untrue reports on social media’ about the CM. “Lot of news is coming in the media which is untrue. There are malicious and untrue reports on social media, without checking the facts. CM is advised rest so that he doesn’t pick infection,” he said.
