PANJIM:  The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) will celebrate 75 years of India independence and 60 years of Goa liberation by organising a marathon in the State.

This was announced by All India Congress Committee (AICC) on Celebration of 75 Years of Indian Independence member Preniel Nair on Monday.

Professionals and others will participate in the marathon to be held in three categories ie three-km, five-km and 10-km on December 18.

Nair said, “I feel happy to announce this programme as Goa is also celebrating 60 years of liberation.”

Nair also announced that GPCC general secretary Janardhan Bhandari will be the in-charge of the marathon.

AICC President Sonia Gandhi had constituted a 25-member sub-committee to plan the year-long celebration of the 75th Independence Day by organising series of programmes across the country from October 2 and to highlight the sacrifices of those who participated in the freedom struggle and to expose those who sided with the British during the freedom movement.

GPCC president Girish Chodankar and general secretary Janardhan Bhandari were also present for press briefing.

Meanwhile Congress will hold protest at Goa Velha at 3 pm on November 30 without disturbing the traffic, in protest the State authorities failure to streamline the traffic at either side of Zuari bridge.
