Curchorem: Curchorem Merchant Association (CMA) on Monday vehemently opposed any hike in garbage collection fees by Curchorem-Cacora Muncipal Council (CCMC) as proposed by the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA). CCMC Chairperson Balkrishna Hodarkar said the council would decide on  DMA’s proposal at their  meeting on Tuesday.

“Fees will increase to Rs 720 from Rs 365  for households  and Rs 3,600 from Rs 730 for street vendors per annum. Besides, increasing more than 200% for other establishments such as hotels and pharmacies, the proposal seeks to charge educational institutions, which were currently exempted,” said CMA President Rocha Pereira.

Meanwhile, Sanvordem residents including local panch Nitesh Bhandari   stopped the movement of trucks carrying ore at Tisk, as it was a public holiday.
