VALPOI: A decomposed male body was found in a wildlife area at Surla village on Monday.

The locals said that when they came across body in village forest, they immediately informed the forest officials about the same. The Forest Department officials later informed the Valpoi Police, who rushed to the site and conducted the panchanama. The body was later sent for post-mortem to Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim.

According to villagers, “The deceased is not a resident of Surla and looking at the decomposed body we suspect that the deceased was murdered.”

“People especially from Karnataka, are visiting our village and are involved in alcohol consumption. We suspect that these people may have committed the murder in the forest, which 20 kilometres away from village,” they alleged

“The body was lying in forest for almost seven days. We cannot identify that body, it is totally decomposed. We have conducted the panchanama and we have found an identify proof at the site of one Yallappa Fakirappa Malangi, a 34-yers-old native of Marakandayya Nagar, Nandi, Peetanwadi, Karnataka. But we cannot say that the body is of the same person. Our investigation is on. The body has been sent for postmortem to Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim,”informed PI Shivram Vaigankar.
