Excise dept seizes Rs 8.41 lakh worth illicit liquor near Cuncolim IDC

PANJIM: The flying squad of Excise department on Friday seized Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) worth over Rs 8.41 lakh near the Cuncolim Industrial Development Corporation (IDC).

The liquor was illegal transported in a truck which was also seized by the flying squad headed by excise inspector Shamba Naik.

The team seized 3,346 bulk litres of IMFL which was valued at Rs 8,41,710. They also attached the truck valued at Rs 25 lakh. Thus the total seizure was valued at Rs 33,41,710.

The seizure was made by the flying squad under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Excise Sanket Sakhardande and Superintendent of Excise (South) Nilesh Naik and along with excise team from Salcete taluka.

According to the Excise Department, the total seizures of liquor value since model code of conduct came into force was Rs 3.54 crore. The flying squad of North Goa has seized liquor worth Rs 2.75 crore with 73 cases booked and South flying squad has seized liquor worth of Rs 80.70 lakh with 94 cases booked.
