PANJIM: Considering the increasing demand for oxygen to COVID-19 patients in Goa, the Central government has sanctioned an additional 20 metric tonnes of liquid medical oxygen (LMO) to the State, thereby raising the overall supply to 47 metric tonnes, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant announced this on twitter.

Also, in a bid to ensure seamless oxygen supply and reduce dependence on trolleys, a 20,000 litre medical oxygen tank is currently being installed at Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC).

Sawant said that the tank would be made operational on a war footing and it will help the authorities to ensure seamless oxygen supply to patients.

On Thursday, Union Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari had announced the allocation of one oxygen tank to Goa from Nagpur, per day.

The State government and GMC are currently facing the displeasure of the High Court over the oxygen supply crisis in GMC, especially during the wee hours from 1 am to 6 am. Around 62 lives have been lost during this period in the last three days due to lack of oxygen supply.

As per the government submission to the Court, 26 died on Tuesday early morning, 21 on Wednesday and 15 on Thursday.

Meanwhile, 215 different capacity oxygen cylinders were brought to Goa on Thursday late night by 2 IAF aircrafts. The State has also received around 360 oxygen concentrators.
