PONDA: Former PWD Minister and Marcaim MLA Sudin Dhavalikar on Wednesday said the government should start the next crushing season at the Sanjivani sugar factory and thereafter revive the factory by obtaining Rs 100 crore loan under the Central scheme.

He criticised the government for not taking any decision on Sanjivani, which has disturbed the farmers’ mindset.

He said, “Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, former CM late Manohar Parrikar, ex-Agriculture Minister Vijai Sardesai and I had discussed the revival of Sanjivani sugar factory through funds available under Central Government scheme.  According to this scheme, the Centre could share 60 per cent, while the State could contribute the remaining for reviving the factory.”

He said Chief Minister Pramod Sawant should look into the matter so that the factory can be revived as the livelihood of around 4000 people depends on it.

Sudin, who had submitted letter to Governor for holding five-day Assembly session on burning issues affecting Goans said he was upset with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant for not willing to hold the session.

He said, “The CM is not ready for this session citing corona spread in Goa. If LS and RS sessions can be held then why not hold Goa Assembly session?”

Sudin said “There is need to restart mining in Goa as the economy has collapsed. The local dailies have highlighted under RTI information that the mining companies have not paid around Rs 499 crore towards the mining dumps which they have sold by conducting theft of these ore dumps. “

He said, “The Government should conduct an inquiry as this money needs to be recovered and I want the issue to be discussed in the Assembly.”

He said, “The Governor should conduct the Assembly session in October as it is important to discuss issues”.
