PANJIM:  Former Chief Minister and current Trinamool Congress Party (TMC) national vice president Luizinho Faleiro took oath as a Member of the Rajya Sabha on Monday.

Faleiro was among five newly-elected individuals, who took oath as Members of the Upper House of Parliament.

Faleiro, who was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from West Bengal, took oath in Konkani.

As soon as the Winter Session of Parliament commenced, Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu called on the newly-elected members to take the oath.

On November 13, the TMC nominated Faleiro for the Rajya Sabha bypoll from West Bengal after TMC MP Arpita Ghosh tendered her resignation on September 15 this year. He was later declared elected unopposed to the House of Elders.

Faleiro quit as Congress MLA and from the primary membership of the party and joined TMC on September 29 and was later appointed as national vice president of the party.

Faleiro is likely to make his maiden speech in Parliament by raising issues concerning Goa on Tuesday.
