VASCO: An urgent meeting was held by local MLA Alina Saldanha on Monday at the office of PWD Assistant Engineer at Vasco, to discuss water related issues in Cortalim village.

Sources from Saldhana’s office informed that the MLA received complaints from Cortalim villagers that they have been facing water shortage since last two weeks due to decrease in pressure.

Following this, Saldhana met the engineer to restore regular water supply.

The source informed that PWD Chief Engineer reportedly assured the MLA to look into the matter and solve the problem.

When Saldhana reportedly pointed out that releasing water to Agassaim deprives the Cortalim villagers of water, the chief engineer informed that there were complaints from Agassaim villagers that they, too, were receiving less water for the previous couple of days as compared to what they were receiving before.

The chief engineer reportedly opined that there could be some leakage of water from the main underground pipeline and this needs to be investigated. Accordingly, he directed the engineers concerned to immediately look into all aspects.

The source further informed that the MLA had reportedly discussed with the engineers, the future needs and augmentation of water to Cortalim.

After the meeting, Saldhana and the PWD engineers inspected and identified sites for setting up the infrastructure for augmenting water supply to both Cortalim and Quelossim villages.

The engineers from JICA were also present at the meeting and the ongoing work of laying the JICA water pipeline from Sancoale up to Thana, Cortalim was also discussed. Commissioning of this pipeline will go a long way to solve the water related issues both in Cortalim and Sancoale villages.
