CURCHOREM: With the Supreme Court order cancelling the iron ore mining leases with effect from mid-March, the mining transportation is going on in full swing and some parents are quite worried because of ensuing Higher Secondary School Examination (HSSCE) which will commence from March 5.

Since the mining transportation usually commences everyday from 8.00 am onwards, students who are residing in far off places from their institution are facing hardships to reach school on time. Due to ensuing HSSC examination, parents are worried and urged the concerned authorities to take necessary measures to regulate the timings of transportation during the examination days so that their wards can reach on time at the examination Centre.

Curchorem Centre Conductor Martin Barbosa made a similar request to Quepem deputy collector and requested him to ensure law and order during the examination period. "Around 1092 students are appearing from the Curchorem Centre and most of the students come from remote areas such as Netorlim, Sulcorna, Collem, Dabal, Costi, Capxem, Rivona, Pirla, Quepem and other neighbouring villages. Since the mining traffic plies on these routes, there is every possibility of students being caught up in traffic jam and thereby delayed in reaching the examination Centre," Barbosa said in his letter.

He urged the collector to ensure law and order and regulate the timings of the transportation so that students can reach on time to the examination Centre  and also go back to their respective homes without any inconvenience.

Meanwhile Dharbandora Deputy Collector Prashant Shirodkar has convened similar meeting on February 21 in his chamber with the representatives from mining companies, educational institutions and traffic police. "Besides regulating the transport timings we will also ask the mining companies to arrange to provide special transport to and fro for the benefit of the students”.
