Raisa and Ashley joint winners of ‘Parkonnem–Kitem Tem Sang’ heritage competition

VASCO: Raisa Fernandes from Vasco and Ashley Afonso from Porvorim were both declared as the joint winners of the first Goan heritage 'Parkonnem –Kitem Tem Sang' competition. 

Organiser, Cyril Fernandes, explained that Raisa Fernandes won the first right to keep the trophy for the first and Ashley Afonso will keep it in the later half.

The winner’s trophy comprises a window pane oysters shells placed around a silver plate and was handcrafted locally.

The runners-ups Remedious Fernandes from Margao, Jacqueline Sequeira from Vasco, Fatima Fernandes from Alto-Chicalim, Rina Fernandes from Betalbatim and Jovita De Souza from  Curtorim were awarded certificates and specially designed heritage mementos created out of Crab Shells.

'Parkonnem - Kitem Tem Sang' was organised by Chicalim Bio-Crusaders as an attempt to promote the heritage of Chicalim and Goa. The award function was held at the Chicalim Church on Thursday after the solemn feast mass of St Francis Xavier, the patron saint of the Chicalim Church.

Fr Simao Fernandes, Director of the Pastoral Institute, Old Goa who was the Chief Guest handed over the trophy to the joint winners. Fr Bolmax Pereira, Parish Priest of Chicalim and Francis Varkey were the Guest of Honour and the Special Guest respectively.

Cyril Fernandes explained the various features of the entire completion and its journey from beginning to end. He said the competition promoting the heritage of Chicalim and Goa would continue in the future with another edition of the ‘Parkonnim’ competition besides other heritage subjects.

The contest was held through social media via Whatsapp and YouTube in view of the COVID-19 restrictions.
