Sanguem Police Station erupts in jubilation

sanguem: The cops at Sanguem Police Station remained upbeat after the Sanguem Police Station was declared as the fifth best in the country by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Thursday. 

Housed in the Portuguese-era building premise which is badly in need of immediate renovation, the Sanguem Police Station was in a celebratory jubilant mood following the news of them bagging the coveted position. 

Immediately after the reports were out, Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar accompanied by former Chairperson of Sanguem Municipal Council Romualdo Fernandes visited the Sanguem Policec Station and congratulated the police team led by Police Inspector (PI) Sachin Panelkar for the achievement.

These rankings based on the evaluation of reports of the Sanguem Police Station by MHA, were reportedly awarded to the police stations based on a range of parameters such as addressing the number of offences related to property disputes, crime against women and crime against weaker sections at a police station.

 While selecting the best police station, a total of 19 parameters were reportedly identified to evaluate the standards of service delivery and identify techniques of improvement in policing. This part constitutes 80 per cent of weightage in overall scoring and the remaining 20 per cent is based on infrastructure of police stations and approachability of personnel and citizen feedback

Incidentally despite its remote location, Sanguem Police Station saw the better side of being one of the best police stations in India with respect to reports on crime scene and the availability of infrastructure facilities at the police Station.

MLA Gaonkar informed that the file pertaining to renovation of the Sanguem Police Station is under process with the project cost estimated at Rs 7.5 crores.

PI Sachin Panelkar complimented all the staff attached to the Sanguem Police Station for the success along with the citizens from Sanguem who he claimed to have equally contributed in getting the prestigious award for the Sanguem Police Station.
