Sanguem locals sore over parallel bridge progress

SANGUEM: Sanguem locals are literally sore over the progress of parallel bridge construction, at Bendwada-Sanguem.

The work, which was restarted in April after almost two years of COVID-19 pandemic, is going on at a snail’s pace and not much progress is seen at the construction site, complained Sanguem Municipal Council Councillor Romualdo Fernandes.

Fernandes informed that with the government showing no intention to restart the work of parallel bridge, Sanguem locals had resorted to a road blockade agitation earlier this year, and subsequently government assured to commence the work and complete at the earliest.

However, going with the present scenario and progress of work at the construction site, the bridge is not expected to see the light of the day in another three years time, claimed former sarpanch of Molcornem Panchayat Josinho D’Costa.

“The work is undertaken at a very slow place. Except for some four labourers undertaking the manual work no much progress is seen at the site. The contractor seems to be dilly delaying the work to suit his timings with no government authorities questioning him over the delay in undertaking the primary work of the parallel bridge,” he alleged.

When work restarted at fag end of April, Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar had assured the work of piling before the end of monsoon season. However, there is nothing at site and this has made the locals wonder as to how many years it will take to complete the bridge.
