Sanguem police station among 10 best in India, ranks 5th

new delhi/panjim: It is a matter of pride for Goa as the Sanguem Police Station has been listed among the top 10 best performing police stations in the country for the year 2020. 

Other police stations getting the pride of place in the list released by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) are from Tamil Nadu, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Sikkim, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and Dadra & Nagar Haveli.

Here’s the list in ascending order: 1) Nongpok Sekmai (Thoubal, Manipur); 2) AWPS-Suramangalam (Salem, Tamil Nadu); 3) Kharsang (Changlang, Arunachal Pradesh); 4) Jhilmili (Surajpur, Chhattisgarh); 5) Sanguem (South Goa, Goa); 6) Kalighat (North and Middle Andaman, Andaman and Nicobar Islands); 7) Pakyong (East district, Sikkim); 8) Kanth (Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh); 9) Khanvel (Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Dadra and Nagar Haveli); and 10) Jammikunta Town (Karimnagar, Telangana).

The list was released in accordance with the Prime Minister's direction to the Directors General of Police (DGPs) during the 2015 conference in Kutch, Gujarat, to set the parameters for grading the police stations and assessing their performance based on the feedback.

Home Minister Amit Shah expressed happiness that the police stations located in small towns and rural areas were adjudged the best from among a vast majority of thousands of police stations short-listed by the ministry. As many as 16,671 police stations were shortlisted for the purpose and 75 of them were selected in the next stage of ranking. The best ones were declared on the basis of the feedback of the citizens. 

Reacting to the news, an elated Chief Minister of Goa, Pramod Sawant, sent a congratulatory message to Goa Police via twitter, saying, “A proud moment for Goa! Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India has ranked Sanguem Police Station among the top 10 Best Performing Police Stations in the country. I congratulate Sanguem PI and his team.”
