PONDA: In a shocking incident, a four-year-old girl was raped at Marcaim on Sunday. A 23-year-old native of Uttar Pradesh was arrested in this connection.

According to Ponda Police, the accused, Ishwar Yadav, who was working in a factory at Marcaim Industrial Estate, and the victim’s family were residing in the industrial estate.

Police informed that the incident occurred at about 1 pm when the accused allegedly took the minor girl to an isolated area nearby the company premises and sexually abused her.

Police said they received a call at about 4 pm from Ponda Sub-District Hospital stating that a minor girl was admitted to the hospital and it might be a sexual abuse. Ponda Police rushed to the hospital and started the investigation.

In his complaint, the victim’s father told Ponda Police that the accused and he was working in the same factory. The incident came to light when the child’s mother started searching the girl for lunch.

Police further informed that when the mother found the girl missing, she immediately informed her husband. Later, the girl was found with the accused behind the factory.

Police said the girl was found bleeding and on suspicion, the parents admitted her to Ponda Sub District Hospital, from where the victim was shifted to GMC Hospital in Bambolim for further check up.

Ponda Police arrested the accused, who was found in a bar near the industrial estate.

Ponda PI C L Patil said from prima facia the case is kidnapping and sexual abuse. The accused was arrested under the Children Act and Ponda Police is investigating the case.

Meanwhile, the residents of Marcaim have expressed strong resentment over workers residing in the industrial estate, which they claim is illegal as per law and demanded action in the matter.
