VASCO: Four natives of Kerala were detained when Customs officials at Dabolim airport seized 20 gold bars of 10 tolas each valued at Rs 58 lakh in two different incidents early Saturday morning.
In the first case, Customs officials detained one Nawaz, who had arrived by an Air Arabia flight from Sharjah to Goa and recovered eight gold bars of 10 tolas each (1 tola = 11.66 grams) valued at about Rs 23 lakh, which were hidden in an emergency light.
In the second incident, Customs officials detained one Utkarsh, an international passenger and two domestic passengers, Midhun and Naushad, and recovered 12 gold bars of 10 tolas each, valued at Rs 35 lakh. The 12 gold bars were reportedly hidden in the rectums of the two domestic passengers.
Customs sources informed Herald that while Utkarsh was travelling from Dubai-Mumbai-Goa
by an Air India flight, Midhun and Naushad had boarded the flight at Mumbai.
“Utkarsh had handed over six gold bars each to Midhun and Naushad to hide them in their rectums,” a source at the Customs said. All four accused have been detained for interrogations.
